Clients Come First at BigHouse Marketing

Why is it that in today's society we often feel like just a number? What happened to building real relationships with our customers? Making a sale simply isn't always the most important thing. I worked for Corporate America many years in advertising and the bottom line was all that seemed to matter. It didn't matter if "the hot advertising package" we had to sell that week was irrelevant to the customer.

"Have you pitched them yet?"

"Why didn't they buy?"

Uh, um, well because their target audience is in Mooresville, NC and the advertising product is distributed in South Carolina. The response was something like, "They wouldn't sell their services to a customer just because he/she was from South Carolina?" Seriously??? Of course the advertiser would sell their services to someone from South Carolina. However, that doesn't make it a great target market for them. How does that mentality build relationships or sales for the end customer? IT DOESN'T.

Call me an idealist. I've been called one before. But the customer matters. THEIR goals should come first. Don't get me wrong. BigHouse Marketing exists to make a profit like any other business. However if you do what's right for your customers, profit will follow. Period.

In today's slower economy, it's that much more important to create programs, strategies, etc. that meet your clients' needs. Stop thinking about what will make you a dollar and figure out what will make your customers money. Or, maybe you're not in the advertising industry. How do your products or services truly benefit your customers? Can you improve those benefits? Can you improve your customer service? If so, (and I believe there's ALWAYS room for improvement) do it!
